So....when is really the best time to post on Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Linkedin, etc? As a social media marketer this is probably the question I get asked most frequently. While this is a simple question, it doesn’t always have a simple answer. It largely depends on your audience, timezone, industry and specific analytics. I know that isn’t hugely helpful but don’t worry, I’m going to break down some solid times below. Posting content at the best time(s) is both an art and a science, and sometimes a total gamble (we’re not machines or magicians here, people.) When posting content for The Social Localist and our clients, we keep two data points in mind: general global engagement research and our client’s specific insights/analytics.
The Best Times to Post on Social Media - Global Research
Fortunately, we live in a world with large companies who dedicate time to research to help inform the rest of us. Unfortunately, many of these studies contradict one another and each share totally different times they claim are best for posting on social media. I prefer to pick out the common themes and put them to the test. One of my favorite companies that produces innovative and research-backed insight is Sprout Social. Sprout recently published research on the most optimal times from when their 25,000-plus Sprout customers were engaged the most (and least) across major networks. Since Twitter is a bit different, we’ll be sticking to Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn. I like to use this study as a reference point, but enough babbling, let’s get to what you’re really here for:
Best Times to Post on Facebook (according to Sprout Social):
The best times to post to Facebook are Wednesday at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m.
Wednesday is the best day to post on Facebook.
The safest times to post are weekdays from 9 a.m.–3 p.m.
Sunday has the least amount of engagement for Facebook during the week.
Early mornings and evenings, before 7 a.m. and after 5 p.m. have the least amount of engagement per day.
Best Times to Post on Instagram (according to Sprout Social):
The best times to post on Instagram are Wednesday at 11 a.m. and Friday at 10–11 a.m.
Wednesday is the overall best day to post to Instagram
The safest times to post are Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m–3 p.m.
Sunday receives the least amount of engagement on Instagram
The least amount of engagement occurs during late night and early morning from 11 p.m.–3 a.m.
Best Times to Post on LinkedIn:
Since LinkedIn is a highly professional network, it’s no surprise that posts shared during the Monday-Friday weekday, between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. perform the best.
Stay away from weekends - this is kind of a given.

I mentioned earlier that it’s good to use the above as a tool for guidance, but not solely rely on it. I like to reference the latest studies and then dig into client’s analytics and insights on specific platforms. This is going to be different for everyone since your audience is unique to your industry and what you’re selling! As long as your social media pages are set as business profiles, you’ll always have access to free insights specific to your page’s audience. Below are a few times we have noticed consistently work for many clients and tend to yield higher levels of engagement.
** Sometimes these times will contradict global research and that’s OK! You have to do a bit of testing to see what works best for your business. **
